Odd bottle prob!

Hello,

My nearly 6 mo is breast fed and is on 3 meals a day. He wakes LOADS every night and always has - I hate anyone who tells me about their little one sleeping through as the best we have ever done is a couple of nights when he woke once and I'm sure they were just by accident. Usually it is 4-6 times a night for food. AKA I am knackered.

Early on, DS would take a bottle but for the past couple of months he wont feed from one. I need him to so I can have a break from at least one or two of the wakenings a night and DH can feed him.

The prob is that he loves the teat going in his mouth - gets excited when he sees the bottle. He will suck on it to get the milk out but then just spits it all out!! We have tried diff bottles and teats, formula and expressed milk, cold, warm, room temp. Every combination we can think of. Current bottle is MAM. He doesn't scream with the bottle or reject it, he just wont swallow the milk. Any ideas?

From a mum at breaking point through sleep deprivation and wanting her DH to take a little bit of the slack...

Are you giving him EBM or formula? Could be he doesnt like the taste of formula? Or funnily enough the other way round! My breastfed DD will refuse breastmilk in a bottle but will drink formula. Yes she is odd!

Sorry just reread and saw you have tried both! What about using a free flow cup instead?

Hello - yep we tried that as well as people said he might not take bottle now and would be easier with cup but he does the same thing - basically fluid in any form other than boob is fun but not swallowable!
