Cmpi - bf & ff

hi

Dr suspects my baby has cmpi. I have been advised to cut out dairy from my diet and as we are mixed feeding to give him nutrigemen (sp?).

Does anyone have any advice about cutting dairy out? How strict do I need to be? In what foods are there hidden dairy products I'd really appreciate some advice about encouraging baby to drink nutrigemen - it smells foul and he has refused to drink it. I don't blame him! I can't express much and as I go back to work in feb when he will be 6mth, he needs to be able to take formula.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I cut out all dairy to continue to BF my DS. I found I had to cut out all dairy religiously, even 'hidden dairy' like whey. I also found that for a while DS became more sensitive to dairy after we cut it out, so if I did eat something even small he'd react lots.

Have you been told to avoid soya too?

Essential food item is Pure dairy free spread, which is a great butter substitute and can be used for cooking. And you need to try lots of milk substitutes to find the one that suits you - try Oatly, soya milk, Kara coconut milk and maybe rice milk.

Are there particular foods you love? People on here can probably suggest alternatives.

Can't help on the formula, I never won that battle with DS and so I'm still BFing him at 2 Hmm

Have a look on the allergies section too, you'll get loads of help and ideas there

walkers salt and vinegar crisps now contain dairy... [hmmm]

dairy is hidden in anything and everything so check all labels

thanks...i was afraid that dairy would be in everything...gutted! dr was useless didn't offer any advice info about elimination diet or say anything about soya.

this sounds v selfish but i am so fed up and feel really annoyed about this!! this is in part because i am not convinced cmpi is the problem. tbh i am more annoyed about the whole formula thing and- thought we'd found a nice rhythm where baby was happy to take formula which would make the transition to work less stressful and was beginning to feel i had a little more freedom.

ah well...maybe dairy free will help me lose some lbs in time for christmas...every cloud?

I can't help with the bf to nutramigen issue but when we were changing from aptamil to nutramigen I did it over a few feeds. He was taking 5oz at the time so I did 4 x aptamil and 1 x nutramigen for two feeds then increased the nutramigen balance by one scoop every 2 feeds until he was totally on nutramigen. Worked like a dream.

Be warned - nutramigen poo is nasty Envy
