2 week old bottle-fed not pooping

Hello,
My two week old son was born really small at 5lb 3oz, and is bottle fed as he didnt take to the breast very well (he had a snuffle and couldnt breathe while feeding). However he is a REALLY fussy eater, has about 2 fluid oz and goes to sleep, and hasnt pooped for days - he must have a tummy ache as he keeps crying. Any tips?

when I switched DD to formula she became very constipated - and this made her very uncomfortable. What formula brand are you using? I was told that standard stage 1 formulas such as SMA, Cow and Gate and Aptamil are basically the same in terms of content. Aptamil is aparently the least likely to cause constipation but I switched DD from SMA to Cow and Gate and within 1 day she was back to regular daily bowel movements. However DD was older than your DS so would be good to double check with your health visitor about switching. There is a range of advice about how to switch - gradually replace one feed at a time or complete transfer. I did a bit of both so of her 5 feeds I switched 3 over the firts day (alternated them one new, one normal, one new etc) and the second day switched them all. It clearly tasted a little different and she took some persuading but she did take the feeds.

Sorry this is long! I would speak to your HV - say that your DS is constipated, that you would like to switch formula brands and see what she advises in terms of which brand to switch to and how she thinks you shoudl switch brands. Good luck and hopefully lost of messy nappies in the future! Grin

Also the sleeping after a feed sounds very normal. DD was incredibly sleepy at first - I dont think I even saw her eyes for weeks Grin aslong as HV sees DS regularly and doesnt seem concerned I wouldnt be worried.

Im on SMA Gold which seemed to be ok at the start but he doesnt seem interested in feeding too much!
