Could this be reflux?

DS is 8 weeks old and formula fed C&G.

He has always suffered from wind, lots of it, hard to shift. We tried infacol in the early days but it seemed to stop him pooing so then he was uncomfortable because of that so we stopped it and just tried better winding techniques.

The main issue is at the bedtime feed (around 7-8pm) he cries really badly after about two sucks of his bottle. Full on screaming, back arching. He is hungry and you can hear the hunger in his cry but everytime he sucks he screams. I end up spending over an hour calming him down and he will finally take about 3oz fighting and the final 3oz calmly.

He absolutely will not lay on his back whatsoever. He sleeps on his front (don't flame me, we have a breathing monitor), he will only sleep on his belly or up on a shoulder, never in an arm cradle position. When he was newborn and we laid him to sleep on his back he would stay asleep but would grunt terribly. Really noisy grunting and straining. As he has gotten a little older, he just wakes up if laid on his back so we automatically lay him on his front and his grunting stops if he's on his front.

He has had a cough for about 4 weeks now and was originally given ABs for suspected chest infection as he had a cold at the time. But the cold and the chest wheeze has long gone but he still has a cough. Hard to know if this is the remnants of the cold though? Confused

Does this sound like reflux? Or just a fussy baby? Will he just grow out of it? Worth a trip to GP? My HV is useless.

TIA

hi sorry to hear that your having problems. my LO has silent reflux but is the other way around that he will take 3oz fine then start to arch back and scream. which HV told me was because when the 3oz hit his tummy it then started to come back up. so not really sure if the other way around is reflux.
have you looked in his mouth for thrush or anything maybe it hurts when he sucks???
also we use infacol and gripe water along with the infant gaviscon the gripe water really helped with his wind and helped with any griping pains.

If you are worried in anyway go and see your gp you may need to keep going back as in my experience they kept passing it off as colic, had to see 4 docs and 2 hv before was given gaviscon,
good luck hope it gets better soon.

Have you tried a different formula? I used Aptamil for DS after trying a couple of others and that worked better in his case. I also found that he preferred the powder to the ready-made cartons.

I don't have any experience of silent reflux as DS had the projectile kind, but definately go and see your GP.
