Breastmilk storage bags

I have purchased a box of these today (Boots brand). However it says at the bottom that they are not suitable for using in the freezer as bag may split. I thought these would be ideal but i'm now not so sure. How else am i supposed to freeze breast milk (other than in bottles which i didnt think was good as they would expand as it freezes)?

How strange.

I use the medela or lanisoh ones and both have been fine in the freezer - never used the boots ones though

I used these, which were great. Zip seal and fine in freezer.

I noticed that about the Boots ones, luckily before I bought them.

I use the lanisoh ones. They're suitable for freezing milk in and say 'my mommies milk' on them, which I know is a silly reason for getting them, but it's cute. Blush

I used the Boots ones, and put them in the freezer without any problems, although DS2 is 2 now so it's possible they've changed in the meantime, I guess.

Very odd.

You could try them with some water in and see what happens? Don't over-fill. Leave plenty of space for expansion?

Lollyheart · 21/11/2011 20:22

I went into boots the other day for some, I couldn't believe you can't use them in the freezer, I thought that was the purpose for them.
I use babies r us ones,I haven't had any problems with them Smile

nannyl · 21/11/2011 20:46

how redisulous!

personally i would use them, not over fill and freeze to see what happens, and if they split id return them.... agree the whole point of BM bags is to store milk in the freezer

boohome · 21/11/2011 20:58

I've just started on a box of Boots ones as Tesco were out of BM storage bags.

The Tesco storage bags said not to fill over 150ml if putting in the freezer (due to liquid expanding), and they're the same size as the Boots ones.

So I'm hoping the Boots ones will also be ok if not filled past 150ml.

I used Boots ones in the freezer with no problem earlier on this year. Admittedly I didn't freeze many but they were all fine.

licoriceGreen · 22/11/2011 08:50

I was with my friend who works at boots when I spotted this too and she told me they used to sold as suitable for the freezer but lots of people complained that they split in the freezer so instead of changing the product they changed the packaging to cover themselves. Not what you'd normally expect from boots.

lilham · 22/11/2011 09:22

I've used the boots ones in the freezer with no problem. Does it really say not suitable for the freezer Shock?

cravingcake · 28/11/2011 09:45

Thank you for your replies. I tested one bag with water & it seems ok. So i've now started freezing milk, so far so good. I've only done three small bags & when putting them in the freezer i've put them within a bigger bag so if they do split it wont go everywhere inthe freezer, and also so my OH can find them all in one spot in the feeezer.

I'm not planning on doing loads so hopefully should get away with it.
