Cluster feeding nightmare

pixiekid · 16/11/2011 23:51

For almost 3 weeks now my baby has wanted constant feeding (falls asleep at breast, is winded, put down, screams & starts rooting as if hungry) for up to 12 hours of the day. He only sleeps (4 hours between feeds) at night (midnight to 8am). Im exhausted and emotionally drained. Not sure how much longer I can continue but really dont want to switch to formula. Have tried expressing but cant fit it in between the feeds\screams. Does cluster feeding really last this long? Any advice?

My DD was like that. She had severe reflux pain and was comfort feeding to ease the pain. She mistook the pains as hunger. On phone so can't link, but have a look at the reflux support thread, see if it seems relevant then go see GP.

If it is,switching won't help. Try cutting dairy out of your diet too.

My DD was like that until about 6 weeks, when I cut dairy out. It may have been the dairy, or it may have been her growing out of it, but worth a try?

You really need to go and see your local bfc - sounds like the latch is not quite right and milk transfer is sub optimal.
