Formula clumping on scoop

This feels like a pretty stupid question, but when I prepare bottles, I find the formula (SMA Gold) clumps on the yellow scoop thing. Either I have to scrape it off with my finger, which is messy and doesn't feel very hygenic, or powder remains in the scoop, and then the mixture of water to powder is wrong.

Anyone have any top tips to stop this happening?

Keep the scoops from enpty tins then just swap to a clean one when it gets too overloaded. I've got about 20 scoops in my drawer, lol

Oh I'd forgotten about that, it's annoying!

I just used to tap the back of the spoon to get out some of it and scrape the rest off with a knife. Then switch to another spoon when you get too annoyed to do it any more Grin

Actually, I also used to wait a bit until there was no steam coming up from the hot water in the bottle, that helped too.

Thanks for your replies - it is annoying! I'm always a bit paranoid about leaving the water to cool too much, but a good idea to swap over the scoops -I'm sure I'll end up with loads of them!

I had this problem and found the only way to stop it was to put the powder in first then using another sterilised bottle to measure the hot water and pouring onto the powder. HTH

This happened to me and I thought I must be doing it wrong! I know this probably sounds like a faff, but I use those tommee tippee powder dispenser things - I fill them up with the right number of scoops first, and then just pour in!

Flippajh · 15/11/2011 20:30

Samstown don't you find that the heat from the water creates condensation in the powder dispenser and it sticks in there instead?

theborrower · 15/11/2011 21:13

I used to wipe it dry with a paper towel after a few scoops to stop it clumping.

I do the same as samstown. A tiny amount of formula gets stuck in the funnel bit, but much less than gets stuck in the scoop!!

Thanks again for the replies. I hadn't thought of getting one of those dispensers, as I use cartons when I'm out and about, but it would make sense for this problem. I'll look out for one.
