Breastfeeding & explosive nappies!

My 10 week old is EBF, and everyday for the past couple of weeks has done at least one explosive poo per day which always leaks out the nappy because there's so much of it! Is this normal? It's the normal yellow colour, and I always ensure she finishes one breast before switching sides so don't think its cos she's getting too much foremilk. But its a total pain as it goes everywhere! She seems healthy & happy, so don't think she's got a tummybug, but grateful for any advice!

If it's just once a day and she seems healthy and happy then it's probably just normal BF baby explosive nappy's.

Lovely arent they, I must admit to having found that cloth nappy's where better at containing them then disposable's. If it causeing a real mess then you could try a nappy wrap meant for cloth nappies over a disposable, this is what I use to do when every we where away and not using my cloth nappies.

yep normal. try a bigger nappy size and only go out after the big poo of the day

mawbroon · 14/11/2011 16:27

What the others said.

Especially the bit about using a wrap over a disposable.

Thanks everyone - she always times them for the least convenient moment possible! Hadn't thought to try a wrap, will give it a go.

Completely normal my DD used to have several a day. I used to put her in nice clothes when we went out and straight back in a babygro when we got home so as not to ruin any more clothes. Try a different brand of nappys I found huggys were best when she was new born and then switched to pampers babydry. When you start weaning you baby you will be stunned at the absolute stink they produce and be nostalgic for the sweet popcorny breastfed nappies lol.

What is also a suprise is that if you continue to breastfeed into toddlerhood when they get a stomach bug (you continue feeding during stomach bugs) but don't give them any solids then their poo turns back into yellow baby poo again. Was a huge suprise when that happened lol.

DS is nearly 7 months and we can just about go somewhere now without 3 changes of outfit. His poo only leaks about half the time now.

on that note anyone got top tips for getting the yellow stain out? unless i wash it straight away it's ruined.

Pickering · 16/11/2011 14:19

Try soaking with Napisan :)

dribbleface · 16/11/2011 14:35

oooh napisan, hadn't thought of that. thanks.

smileitssunny · 16/11/2011 14:54

apparently sunshine gets rid of the stains.... good luck now though!

nancerama · 18/11/2011 12:59

Yes, sunshine is awesome. A couple of hours on the line and my clothes and washable nappies are like new.

How to get banana stains off of clothes is a mystery though.

I went out without a spare pair of trousers in the changing bag the other day - DS had done a monster poo all up the back and down both legs by the time we got into town! the nearest nappy changing facilities were in John Lewis and I ended up buying some new trousers for him, an expensive mistake and one I won't be repeating!
