Formula Rumours...

I've been BF for 16 weeks, and for the last 3 weeks baby keeps waking up every hour from 3am. She goes to sleep about 7pm and then thinks it's time to wake up! I've been told to try formula at her 11pm feed as it sits on their tummy longer... I'm starting to feel that it could be a good idea as sleep deprivation is really starting to take its toll, however I feel really guilty to make baby change to Formula purely so I can sleep. Has anyone else done this and has it worked for you? Thanks (confused)

I formula fed my first three and they slept through earlier than my fourth who was breastfed BUT when i tried introducing one formula feed for my breastfed baby it didnt make any difference at all and she still woke up, she couldnt seem to take enough formula at the feed. I only tried twice so maybe if i had carried on it may have helped more i dont know.

load of rubbish!! there is no proof that formula fed babies sleep better. i know of quite a few people who tried this and their babies still woke up. it could be a funny sleep phase that your baby is going through (look up 4 month sleep regression). it can be really tiring with a little baby but i would try to stick it out and hopefully theyl be sleeping better again soon.

I have BF 2 babies. DS didn't sleep through the night with any real regularity until he was 4 years old. DD is the same age as yours and sleeps through. I don't think there is any magic property to formula which is likely to make a BF baby sleep tbh, if there were they would charge a lot more money for it.

And my mother formula fed her first two children and BF her third - me. I slept through from six weeks. I don't think how a baby is fed has any real relation to their sleep patterns.

Well given that more babies are formula fed and that there are about seven million baby books on sleep, I doubt that formula is the magic answer Grin

Formula helped my dd sleep longer....for about 30 mins then she still woke up! She's 7 months now and sleeping 11-13 hours a night (touch wood) and BLW so I'm a firm believer in sleeping longer just happens and nothing can change it

It's as i thought then! Fed up of listening to advise that isn't true, guess I should go by instinct more! Mayb I'll go mad with lack of sleep before it gets any better! Baby will be all grown up before I know it!

I found it was just as I was starting to go mad DD would surprise me and sleep longer! nap nap and nap Grin

My dd was ebf until 12 weeks when we introduced a bottle of formula before bed.....still wakes 5 times a night. Made no difference whatsoever

Sounds like four month sleep regression it'll pass if it is. Took a month with dd.
