it was really tasty, with essence of almond and coconut. Tasted low fat but creamy. I wish I had big boobs, cos then I'd bottle and sell it...and make a fortune no doubt !!

Sweet and watery.
But 3yr old DD told me the other night it tasted of onions. Which given the quantites of garlic we eat, is possible....

sorry OP - have never understood why babies voluntarily drink it. it is most rank! or maybe it's just mine that is rank. perhaps it is some evolutionary thing where your own BM tastes foul, like the odour of your own blood relatives smells foul to you to stop you committing incest. or something.

So did you test expressed or suck it direct from the boob?

I'm with NoNoNo on this one. It's vile; I do not understand DS' obsession with the stuff. The times I absently-mindedly licked my fingers, or his spoon after I'd mixed BM with something when we were weaning him. It's yuk!!!

Agree with the onions bit though. And DS once did a poo which smelled of curry despite the fact that he was only four months old at the time and hadn't eaten any.

I think there is something to do with the level of some fat or enzyme - lipase or something - that can make bm taste better or worse. I once tasted some from a bottle in the fridge and threw the whole lot out as I was convinced it was off. Then I tasted some straight out of the boob and realised that was how it tasted.

I hand expressed a few ounces into a glass last night as couldn't be bothered to sterilise anything to express and am heading for mastitis again so need to keep my breast cleared. Didn't want to throw it away, so just drank it.

You get used to the taste. I think it's a bit like coconut milk but a bit creamier and sweeter. It tastes different at different times though.

It's like the really sweet bit of milk when you've eaten all the cereal!
