breast feeding and teething

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I'm sorry if this has been covered but I can't find a thread to answer my query.
My dd is 8 1/2 months old and has cut her first tooth today (yippee)!!! Also today she has refused her breast feeds since this afternoon. Is this related? I think I read somewhere that they find breast feeding painful. Has any one experienced this?

Teething can make a lot of things go wonky (feeding, sleeping, poo, you name it really). I would perservere. Perhaps give some pain relief if she needs it? We find Calgel works really well but there is lots of other stuff about.

if anything I found the opposite was true, they wanted to comfort feed more, esp at night.

all changed when teeth 3 and 4 came through...they could bite...and boy did it hurt!!!( hurt me,that is)

The biting doesn't last (if you have it at all). I had a few nips but just pulled ds off when he did and he soon stopped. He now has 10 teeth and no longer bites at all.

unfortunately I yelped really loudly when ds bit me and he completely refused to go near boob ever again....felt so bereft as had not planed to stop BF at 7 mths
if i could turn back the clock I would not have cried out at all!

mads, dont worry, she will soon settle back into her old self again

Many thanks for your advice. You have all reassured me (this is why i come on mumsnet!!). As with everything I shall perservere and hope for the best. Thank you again
