Sore boob (singular) but gave up nearly a fortnight ago? What can I do?

DS is nearly 1 and I gave up b/f nearly 2 weeks ago, quite suddenly, which I hadn't really planned, but we were all ill and I was planning on giving up when he was one anyway.

He had a very definite pref for the right hand side.
Since then I have felt full but only on the RH side (they're a bit lopsided Grin) but today it's almost painful
Anything I can do? If I try to express, wont that make things worse?

It's only 2 years ago but can't remember for the life of me what I did with his older brother.

TIA

I stopped b/f DS when he was a year old (I was also ill and my supply just diminished) and I really suffered with sore and lumpy boobs (also one side worse than the other).

I didn't express because I thought that it would encourage my body to produce more milk and I just stuck it out for a few days with some painkillers. I seem to remember having a week or so feeling uncomfortable.

Good luck

Thanks so much gosh and golly (love your name)

at a week!
Will grab some halfdecent painkillers (have missed those in the last 21 months, I can tell you!)
Thanks

Hi champagnesupernova

Poor you. I remember this bit and it wasn't only that I felt sore, I also felt a bit wibbly and emotional. Are you feeling like that?

All I can recommend is a good painkiller - don't express; it'll make you produce more milk and it'll all take longer. And reading this quote from ProfessorGrammaticus (is she still around?) which I found is MN's feature-thingy on giving up breastfeeding here: "Reclaim your body for yourself and enjoy it, knowing you have done the best you could for your kids."

Thanks for that porpoise Smile

I don't remember it at ALL from last time which is weird as its not that long ago and def don't remember any pain.

Haven't been feeling too wibbly but a bit stroppy with DH (though he'd tell you that's nothing new Wink)

Have v much enjoyed the reclaiming bit though. (slugs wine)

Can you feel a lump at all? If so you could have a blocked duct, the best thing to do in this situation is to massage the blockage out which probably will stimulate milk production for a bit, but it's better than getting mastitis.

Cabbage leaves work to bring down engorgement whatever the cause.

If you start feeling ill with flu like symptoms at all then go immediately to doctors, just in case it is mastitis.
