Does sage tea and cabbage compression work for reducing milk supply?

I've developed a painful blocked duct again on my left breast, the same one With mastitis for 3 weeks. I was close to giving up breastfeeding, but decided to give it another go since my baby was gaining weight so well. Now, it's been 2 days he has been sleeping through the night and i don't want to make the blocked duct worse and lead me to another mastitis bout. Has anyone got the same problem? I've applying ice and heat, hot showers and massaging, but the lump is still there. Now I am trying cabbage leaves and sage tea. Has anyone tried them before?

Don't know sorry Suse but didn't want to leave your post unanswered.

Just wondered if you've spoken to a BFC or are getting any RL help or have read this.

Hope someone comes along soon with some more experience than me or training Smile.

Sounds totally wacky but a savoy cabbage leaf (the tough outside ones) tucked around the offending boob worked wonders for me! (some yrs ago I admit)

Keep it on until it warms up & remove.

Re-apply 2/3 times a day. God knows what's in it but it does help, don't care if it's a placebo effect .

HTH well done for persevering with BF, hope it gets better.

First of all, if you have a blocked duct, if you can feed with the baby's chin to the lump, that can work wonders at clearing them.

You say the blocked duct is on the same boob that had mastitis - did you have a blocked duct on that breast before the mastitis? If so, was it in the same location? Repeated blocked ducts in the same location can be a sign that latch is a bit wonky, or can be caused by something pressing on that breast during feeds (e.g. your hand, or a bra)

The blocked duct or whatever it is, it's in the same place where it was before. I've been trying all sorts of positions, making sure baby's chin is towards the blockage. I've been drinking sage tea and applying cabbage...i haven't noticed too much of a difference, other than the blockage is less sore today. I'll wait another day or so and see what happens. I wonder if it's really a blockage...a few days ago my DH knocked me out during his sleep right on my left breast. The day after i felt like a pulsating pain, the following day no pain at all and now it looks almost like inflamed breast tissue. The rest of the breast is kimd of soft...we'll see.

I think the latch is ok, otherwise i would get mastitis on the other breast as well, but the right one so far seems good. Keeping my fingers crossed though.
