Vegetarian and organic?

Does anyone know of a brand that does organic vegetarian follow-on-milk? Online I can only find Babynat which costs a small fortune...

Looks like Hipp (the UK's only organic follow on milk I believe?) isn't vegetarian. Bonkers.

Just out of interest, what makes it not vegetarian?

I thought follow-on milk wasn't necessary and babies over 1 could just drink cows' milk... correct me if I'm wrong!

Sorry I see follow-on milk is for 6 months on. How weird, I can't tell from the ingredients list why it's not veggie.

All formulas contain fish now.

Fish, cow, and sometimes pork..

Sma stage 2 is vegetarian, the only high street formula that is. It's obviously not organic though.

Thanks everybody. With the Hipp follow-on it's not veggie because of the animal rennet I think - not sure about the source, it's often calves stomach though I think.

AppleOrchid, why do you need Follow On?

If you're still bf, ordinary cow's milk is Ok as long as it's not your baby's main milk source

If bottle feeding, just carry on with First Milk which is fine up to 1 year. Your First Milk presumably isn't veggie or organic so why the need to change [hconfused]

Hello Finallygotaroundtoit, alas my baby is on strike so I'm just trying to formulate a plan to get enough milk into her. It's been almost a week now and my milk supply is dropping and she's not very good at taking fluids from a bottle / beaker having only ever been breastfed up until now. While I'm not giving in yet, I do feel like I need a back-up so have been researching these things carefully. I'm a vegetarian but have been weaning little one on a diet including fish for protein etc. If I do have to give her formula at any point I'd ideally like it to be vegetarian and organic but this is looking increasingly unlikely...

Oh dear, I see you have had good advice. Kellymom is good & have a look here www.llli.org/nb/nbmarapr08p22.html

Have you tried co bathing (without putting her in usual nursing position) and dream feeds?

If she's getting expressed milk.I'd go for cow's milk in a cup rather than formula

Hope the strike is called off soon
