Sore nips - what am I doing wrong?

Hello
DS is 10 mths old and was mixed fed from 8 mths - 1-2 btls of formula a day
I ditched the formula two weeks ago as we went on holiday and it was too much of a faff
However now I have terribly sore nipples. No sign of cracking and I've been using lansinoh
But feeding, showering etc are all painful

Where am I going wrong? Could it be thrush or just teeth rubbing?

If everything looks normal BIL, could it simply be because you have (presumably) upped the number of breastfeeds you are doing, ie nipples are currently experiencing more friction than before? Or could it be positioning - as ds grows he will need to be in a slightly different position on your lap/in bed in order to feed effectively.

I'd go see a BFC, to check on it. (Assuming Pruni is wrong ...)

Things they'll want to know: Do your nipples hurt more in any one bit? Do they hurt while latching, or throughout feeding?

Also, are your nipples a funny shape when DS comes off? Any teeth indentations?

Pruni - no chance of pg! Kellymom website did say that you might get sore around ovulation and that did coincidence with the worst of the soreness

NQC- no sign of teeth marks. Hurts upon latch and sometimes throughout the feed, sometimes just uncomfortable

Tipex - whilst we've been away he's been using me as a dummy. Falling asleep and then screaming if the breast is removed

Maybe they've just taken a bit of a battering!

Could be thrush, could be mastitis - ie an infection caused by tiny abrasions on your nipple due to teeth or incorrect positioning. And it is possible for this to happen after 10 months - it happened to me just before Christmas. I'd see your GP if I were you.

coincide not coincidence! ooops think I've spelt that wrong too
not had any sleep today or last night so brain is shot
would be in bed but DS won't go to sleep

I'd think ovulation would explain some soreness.

When your DS comes off, are the tips of your nipples still round? Or another shape? Is any part of them white? (Trying to check for latch issues ...)

Blondeinlondon · 29/12/2005 18:21

NQC- the tips are still round but look blanched

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit but what are the symptoms of thrush. Have got a lot of pain on one side - assumed this was just cracking (have had bad cracks and mastitis on this side) but after a few days of expressing only on that side I resumed feeding today and it's agony again.

BIL, I think the blanched thing is normal, but worth mentioning to a BFC (which I am not).
