Diluting formula

My friend's baby is constipated. She took him to her GP who told her to dilute his formula. I've never heard of this before. Isn't it unsafe???

yes, bad idea.
how old is the baby? is he really constipated or hasn't just pooed for a while and is otherwise fine?

When DS was a baby, my HV advised adding 1 extra oz water to an 8oz feed, but making sure he drank it all, even if in several sittings. ie: make sure he still got all the nutrients.

I thought that was why it was so vital you make up feeds properly. I.e correct amount of scoops for the amount of liquid e.g, 6 scoops for 6oz?

Too much powder I thought meant constipation whereas too much water in it can cause water intoxication?
I might be wrong there, just what I have read.

I thought too much water caused intoxication too? He is 4 months old. Has been constipated for a few days and is otherwise ok.
