Making up bottles when out for the day

Help - my husband is taking the kids away for a family wedding next weekend so will be away from Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon. (i'm at a hen do that weekend so can't go)

DS (5 months) is mainly BF but will happily take a bottle of formula so not too worried on that score.

Making up and sterilising bottles at the hotel is fine but what should he do when he's out at the wedding as DS will probably need at least one bottle when he's away from the hotel - if he makes it up in advance, how long is the milk ok if it's not kept in the fridge?

You are not supposed to keep milk over 2 hours. I usually just put the water in the bottle and then take the measured amount of formula with me (you can get tubs purposely made for this purpose). I then just mix up the milk when required, every place that I have asked have provided hot water to warm the bottle. Enjoy your hen do and I hope hubby enjoys the wedding.

formula milk MUST be made up with water that is over 70 degrees in order to kill off any bacteria in it. it is not sterile.

so in this case I would suggest that he makes a feed up with hot enough water, and then takes it out in an insulated bag. OR, makes it up and cools it immediately in the fridge. and then takes it out in a bag with coolpacks and heats it when he needs it

or, you could express?

take little cartons.
they would be expensive if you used them all the time, but they are quite affordable for odd occasions.

Yes, please don't make up bottles with cold water.

In this situation I would just use the ready made cartons - they're already sterile.

Deffo take made up cartons.....that's what I do when necessary. They only cost between 50-60p. So just pack sterilised bottles and the cartons in change bag. Dont be surprised however if your LO doesn't drink as much of the carton formula....mine never does as it's much creamier. Also seems to satisfy him more sometimes too....so may sleep better afterward?! Obvs all babies are different but that's what happens with my ds.

oh of course! i'd forgotten about the little cartons too. those would be ideal
