Expressing for night feeds - why not?

Last night I left Dp with a bottle of expressed milk & got some extra unbroken sleep. A revelation! We never did it with DD1 & I'm wondering why not. I know the night feeds are important for supply, & bottle confusion might be a worry... wondering if there is something vital that I've forgotten, what's the lactivist view on this?

Not sure about supply etc, but don't forget the b/f won't be an effective contraceptive method if going more than 6 (need to double check) hours without b/f!

Exploding boobs and a milk-soaked mattress? That's why it didn't work for me.

What Baron said. On the very few occassions my DD has slept more than 4 hours straight i have had to get up and express!

Good point Lucamom

Didn't mean to imply that I thought everyone should do it btw, was just feeling so refreshed & delighted I couldn't imagine why I hadn't before. I think the contraceptive issue might have been why actually or DP was an arse & refused to do any nighttime parenting for the first year

Did wake up with rocks after my 5 hours though - nice as my last post here was about my boobs never getting full - clearly dd2 had t given them enough of a chance!
