..arse! Good grief - we need all the windows open!

... I know breastfed babies aren't supposed to get constipated, but really, how long is it going to stay fermenting up there? I'm not sure I can stand the smell any longer - she is farting worse than her father, and that's really something.

She's starting to look uncomfortable with it as well - squirmy and whiny.... she used to be a couple of times a day baby just 2 weeks ago. Then daily last week, then this week - nothing.

So... how long do I/we have to endure this?

She also pulls and wriggles at the breast to get it out.

There's a poo explosion building...make sure you have lots of wipes.

I swear she is farting about every 3 minutes on average - where does all this gas come from?!

Eglu - she's not offering you a finger to pull as well is she?

Second the poo explosion, wipes, changes of clothes, towels hazmat suit DS must of halved his body weight in an afternoon of power poos six within two hours!

Graciescotland -6 in 2 hours is very impressive. Shall send DP out for paper boiler suit -hazmat- -suit- immediately!

This is from distant memory, and may no longer be considered proper tool for mummy toolbox (I come from the age when we weaned all wrong) but what worked with my poo storing baby was...

pick up baby

face baby forward, baby's back to your chest

wrap one arm around baby tummy, the other containing floppy bits.

Lean forwards slightly when baby appears to be straining so they have something to strain against in your arm.

Remeber to lay plastic all over floor and drape self in CSI outfit far too late.

This is advice from an Italian ped over ten years ago, so may be culturally inappropriate as well as wildly out of date.

But it did seem to work when I was at the point of demanding a perscription for a gas mask.

Also try putting baby down on their back and wiggling their legs like they are going for an upside down bikeride! gets the guts moving :-). have a look at yoga tequniques for babies too. has other ways of manipulating tummy to move obstructions.

Just one other consideration to bear in mind, Italians don't do fitted carpets or laminate, it's all tiled floors..perhaps try it in the bathroom ?

My 3 and a half week old dd hadn't pood since Tuesday, the wind was evil but the poo she did this morning was something else it needed all the windows open and a bath. How can something so small and cute produce something so large and evil? I'm not sure what got it going we tried the upside down bike, tummy massage, warm baths and last night, at the recommendation of the hv, 1 teaspoon of orange juice in 1oz of water but she only managed half of it.

What, orange juice and water to a 3 week old? I didn't think that was safe, but then what do I know.
My DD's 12 weeks old today and does the most toxic farts too, and she's EBF. I also wasn't prepare for the noxiousness! To ease the tummy pain, it works to hold her on her tummy, upside down with one hand under her chest/neck/arm and one arm between her legs with the hand on her tummy to give just that little bit of pressure, it seems to relax her and ease the pain. I wouldn't recommend it without the nappy on though...

Second that badgerwife.....really good for tummy ache. Not so sure about wind/constipation! My ds still farts like a trooper all day and night (11 weeks old!) Causes him some real grief. Not sure there's much I can try??

Well I drank orange juice - and we had poo, and poo, then some more poo.

She was very considerate though and waited until the next nappy was on before filling it, so it didn't go everywhere - but there was such a lot of it! Well it was a full 7 days worth....
