When did you start AF again?

This is just a question to satisfy my curiosity really. Of those of who who breastfeed or breastfed when did your period come back?
Just interested as I exclusively fed on demand my ds for 6 months (still bf now though only 2-3 times a day as he is 13 months and eats loads of solids)and yet had my first period when he was 3 months old. I have had one every month since though they are ligher and less painful than pre-pregnancy. I know it really varies but was wondering if anyone else had this sort of experience.
Ds was never a really hungry baby - he probably fed 6-9 times in 24 hours, though 9 was more when he had growth spurts. 7-8 times was more normal. He never slept the night until he was 11 months so he fed quite often at night too(usually 1-2 times sometimes more).
Mind you I also bled for a lot of my early pregnancy so I only had the last 6 months of my pregnancy and 3 months after the birth (9 months total) free from the curse. Maybe I'm just bleeder

Just realised that with the post-birth bleeding I in fact only had a couple of months free of the curse after ds's birth - not fair !!!!!

I got my period back 4 weeks after post birth bleeding stopped how unfair is that? (fed for a year as well)

hornbag · 21/12/2005 17:26

About 3 months after both DD and DS despite BF.

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 21/12/2005 17:35

Still no sign and ds is 8mo.

Pollyannainexcelsis · 21/12/2005 17:37

9 months with all 4 of mine. (they all bf for at least a year). i read somewhere that it is related to body fat.

I was just wondering about this too. DS2 is 8 months, I stopped b'feeding 2 weeks ago and no period yet. Actually beginning to get a bit worried...

wilbur · 21/12/2005 17:41

About 4 months with ds1 and a bit more with dd. Ds2 is just 4 months and I'm beginning to feel a bit like AF might be on her way. I wondered if it gets longer as you get older - you know, if you're a spring chicken then the hormones get back on track quicker. I'm 37 and AF was definitely affected more by last two pregnancies.

Kelly1978 · 21/12/2005 17:47

First two tiems, almost straight away, despite bfeeding, third time, at around 4 mnths, when I started to wean my dts off breast milk.

AChristmasCarolinamoon · 21/12/2005 17:48

I haven't had one for nearly 2 years . Ds is 13mo and only feeding at night now (although he does feed at least once during the night, once before bed and once early in the morning - possibly linked to recent teething).

I'd quite like them back so we can get on with ttc no.2, but don't want to rush ds into stopping (soft old moo that I am...).

I also had very irregular periods before ds was born, after coming off the Pill. That was caused by PCOS and I'm a tiny bit concerned that may be happening again.

suzi2 · 21/12/2005 17:53

Still hasn't appeared and DS is 20wks. long may it continue. Mind you, I have a bet with DH that it will appear on either Xmas day or NY day!

Pollyannainexcelsis · 21/12/2005 17:57

so, those of you who started really quickly after the birth, are you thin? (I'm not, and it was 9 months) - just seeing if the bodyfat theory works

snowgirl · 21/12/2005 18:25

I started nine months as well and am not thin. although a friend (most def not thin!) started at about 12 weeks. Both bf.

Breast fed for 2 years, periods started back after 11 months, and I'm most definitely not thin. They are as regular as clockwork, although I wasn't regular before (I used to go anywhere between 4 and 13 months between periods). They were very heavy to start with but now they're much lighter than they used to be ... with much worse PMT!!

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 21/12/2005 18:29

Isn't the theory that those with increased body fat get their periods back quicker?

harpsiheraldangelssing · 21/12/2005 18:29

first time - at least 8 or 9 months
this time five bloody weeks
grrrr

harpsiheraldangelssing · 21/12/2005 18:30

yeah and I am LOADS thinner this time

sazhig · 21/12/2005 18:36

Mine came back when ds was about 9 months I think. He slept thru (10-8) pretty much most of the time from about 8 weeks, but still woke once every week or so so I think that might've kept af away. He slept thru for 2 whole weeks in april/may and I ovulated 2 weeks later, followed by af 10 days later. Definately been much better since before DS tho - much much shorter - I used to bleed for anything up to 2 weeks before - now its 3 days . I've also switched to using a mooncup instead of tampons whihc seems to make the whole thing a lot easier & I have much less cramping. Still turn into a monster when I ovulate & just before af arrives though - much to dh's annoyance!

Jasnem · 21/12/2005 19:27

6 months for me both times. I was 30 & 31 and quite thin. I only had the one period between DDs1 & 2, and bfed until 8 months both times.

popsycalindisguise · 21/12/2005 19:27

popsycalindisguise · 21/12/2005 19:28

Four months (with light bleeding at three). Not thin. No spring chicken. Exclusive BF on demand, inc 2-3 a night. I must just be lucky I guess...

RacersTheRedNosedReindeer · 21/12/2005 19:56

6m and no sign yet. Also not thin, nor spring chicken!

Tinker · 21/12/2005 20:40

7 months and no sign. have forgotten that i'm meant to have them.
