Well are you planning to give bottles of EBM ? Does he take bottles ?
I would think he should be all right... babies are usually easier with "strangers" than mom and dad....

You will need to express to feel comfortable ! Maybe before you go to bed ? You won't really affect your supply - especially if the next day you are generous in the amount of time you offer the breast but you will be engorged if you don't breastfeed.

should read : "you will be engorged if you don't breastfeed OR EXPRESS"

I am leaving my dd with my mother tomorrow (saturday) night too. She is 7 months and sleeps all night, i still need to get up in the night to express. So i will get up about 4 in the morning and express about 7 ounces. I will feed dd until i leave about 8.30 then put her to bed and go. My mother will then feed her with the expressed milk in the morning. But incase she wakes up for a feed (babies like to surprise you) i will express for 5 mins or less on each breast after each feed tomorrow and save it up in one bottle as an emergency feed. Also have bottled water ready too. I will be out until around 3am so when i get in I will express and chuck the milk away or if i can be arsed sterilise the equipment and save it. Depends on what stage of breastfeeding you are at, if you are not at the weaning off stage, you want to make sure you express while you are out at the normal times you feed even if its only for a few mins each side or express once but empty your breasts totally.

pupuce · 24/10/2003 21:58

Mammy - I hate to disagree with you but if you express so much - no surprise you still feel you need to express in the night.
WIth a 7 months old who sleeps through you could easily stop expressing in the night (maybe epxress 3oz only for a couple of days and the stop all together).
If you express until it's empty (and BTW breasts are never empty.... but that's a seperate issue) you will keep making "too much' milk.

ebm as much as poss but havent got much in "stock" will try not get as much out before I leave him as I can but he will also be getting formula I think.

Ill reserve all of sunday for just feeding and cuddling - should that prevent any supply probs?

Im dreading it to be honest! Hope it all goes ok

He does take a bottle - has never totally rejected it but sometimes he really doesnt seem to enjoy it much.

Becca - it WILL be fine - the more you worry the worst it will be for all involved (easier said then done I know) but have confidence in Harvey!
Your milk supply will be fine if you express at least once (preferably twice if you can be bothered).

Beccarollo · 24/10/2003 22:14

Yeah I will fit in a couple of expresses!

Ill feed him right before I leave him and pick him up early morning then he will probably only actually miss a couple of feeds!

Thanks for your help (Again!)
