I'm sorry if this is a bit ramble-y, I have kidney problems that cause high blood pressure that increases the kidney problems. I am under the care of a Renal Consultant who today told me that the blood pressure pills I am currently taking (labetalol - because I am breastfeeding) don't protect the kidneys so I need to come off them as soon as I stop breastfeeding to protect my kidneys.

So now I have a decision that has already caused a fair few tears. Do I do what's best for DS & carry on breastfeeding? Or do I do what's best for my kidneys & put him on formula? :(

DP & I have talked about the idea of bf'ing DS until he is 6m. He is 3.5m now.

You've done really well to feed for 3.5 despite your condition, well done. I would make sure you thoroughly reasearch all of your options to make sure you make an informed choice.

I will TikTok, thanks, I really can't see why he felt the need to scare me? Confused

Thanks bangcrash, very interesting. So in 9hrs it would be out of my system, is that correct? And as it's over 300 in weight it wouldn't pass into bm? And as the protein binding is 99% then it's more likely to stay in my blood than is my bm? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm at the edge of my understanding and in no way is this any kind of official advice/info. More random musings if you will.

I think you also have to take into account the drug's metabolite (what the drug gets broken down into by the body 'digesting' it). Some metabolites work in the same way as the drug itself, whereas some drug's metabolites are inactive or less usable than the original substance.

So if the metabolite of drug X (meta X) has the same effect as drug X the half life is fairly irrelevant as it will either be drug X or meta X doing the same job. If meta X is unusable then the half life is very relevant.

Again not any professional advice!
