DD2 is 7 wo and thriving. However she has a short tongue which has been checked by a surgeon to see if snipping would help. He decided it wouldn't and that her latch will always be problematic as her tongue isn't able to make the circular motion needed (apparently!). I've been seeing a MW who is also an LC at BF group each week and she suggested I try nipple shields to help with the soreness of the poor latch and also to help DD cope with my strong let-down which has her coughing and spluttering as well (and probably explains why she is thriving despite the feeding difficulties - she often just lies there with her mouth open letting the milk pour in!).
On top of this, she also seems to have reflux - lots and lots of vomiting (not just posseting), pain during and after feeds, feeding frequently, getting very upset during feeds, etc. I took her to the GP as she has been congested since birth and it's been getting worse - especially at night when she chokes for breath. He diagnosed reflux and px gaviscon.
While I'm glad to have some solutions to these issues, the problem we seem to have is that DD is refusing to go with the nipple shields (and they still hurt??), won't take a dummy or a bottle of EBM and gets really upset when we use a syringe to give her the gaviscon.
Oh and to top it all off, she also seems to have all the signs of teething too so spends most of her awake time screaming - A&P powders have been helping though so will continue with those for now.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to get her to accept artificial nipples as I need to get this sorted for my own sanity (I know that sounds terribly selfish, but I feel guilty that my baby is suffering and it's upsetting me, alongside the constant pain (and wet/cheesy clothes) and headaches, backaches, etc!).
Sorry if this comes across as a bit whingey, but I guess I just need to get it off my chest a bit too.
