How much formula- having a flap!

DS is on hypoallergenic milk he is 8+3 weeks and weighs 10 lbs 9 1/2 OZ.
I've been giving him 6 OZ first feed-7am and last feed-10/10:30pm. Then 4 or 5 OZ for the other feeds at 10ish, 2ish, 6ish.
So he is getting about 25-27 in a day.
This sound about right? Google is too confusing. I think I'm having a post natal flap!

Is there a guide on the tub? It usually goes by weight.

Normal formula is weight in lbs x2.5 to get oz a day. So a 10lb baby is 25oz, an 11lb baby is 27.5oz. Not sure if there is a difference with hypoallergenic formula.

Hi, prolific. Have you asked your HV or the doc who prescribed the formula about this? Prob best to get an 'official' reply when it comes to these specialist formulas.

The NHS website says that babies should have 150-200ml per kg of body weight per day. For my 12lb ds that ranges from 27.5-38.5oz per day. Which is as clear as mud.

However, he regularly consumes 32/33oz - slap bang in the middle so I'm doing something right, yes?

No. I was told by a paed dr yesterday that I'm overfeeding him. He should only be having 24oz.

My point is it seems to be a widely varying thing, but I would second the advice to ask the prescriber if what you're doing is ok.

Honestly? Today: pretty ropey. DS has reflux but is not losing weight so they won't give him anything other than gaviscon which is making him poo playdough. Which is nice.

And the paed dept (not having seen him) say it's not reflux at all but overfeeding as I said above.

He's finally asleep but he's been howling allllllll morning. Except when he's spewing acid vomit all over both of us.

Well I say to go with the flow and give your baby what he wants - be it a little or a lot. I wouldn't let my son go hungry or force feed him either.

I too was having a flap about 2 weeks ago as I BF my first, so bottles and formula are new to me.

My 10 week old Son weighs 17lb 6oz (on the 99th percentile). I'm expecting to be told by the HV on my next visit to reduce his feeds, and I can honestly say I will be telling her 'No'.

I just think if he's hungry there's not a lot I can do about it. He wouldn't drain a bottle if he wasn't hungry, and when he starts to crawl and walk I'm sure the extra baby cuddly fat will fall off.

Jack has 5oz Hipp Organic milk about every 3 hours, then cluster feeds every hour and a half (about 3oz a time) in the evenings (about 5pm - 10pm), sleeps until 4.30am, wakes up for a feed.

As long as my baby is happy and content - I am too.

Thanks all. Well the HV was less than helpful so I'm going with what the packet says about 25oz a day.
Ridiculous that no one will take your DS' obvious problem seriously.

Saw HV this afternoon. He's still putting on weight like a good 'un so that's one good thing.

She said to ignore the overfeeding thing - the paed is obv a 'total idiot'. Also said that I should push ahead with a referral (which I have) but to expect a battle to get anything else.

So for now I've put him on 1/2 doses of gaviscon. It (as you'd expect) isn't working as well and appears to be bunging him up still but I'm going to give it a couple of days. It's just so frustrating that because he's 'well' they're not interested. Shame they can't see him screaming in agony as he's always perfectly well behaved when we see a dr!
