Mixing formula and breast milk

Fairly straightforward question really - can you mix breast and formula milk? I am expressing as much milk as I can, but it's not enough to make up a feed. Can I top it up with formula milk?

It's generally not good to mix breast and formula in the same bottle - the thinking is that if any of it is not drunk, your precious ebm goes down the sink. If the baby needs more ebm, best to give it in a separate bottle afterwards.
