Please help with wind!

Am at a loss now with my DS2 and his wind! He is mostly breast fed with the occasional ff. When he has a bottle he brings his wind up no problem but after every bf he does not bring anything up, no matter what I do, and then if I put him down he gets grizzly and windy!
Please someone help? Have tried Infacol but it doesn't really help.

Sit him upright against your tummy, so his back if against your front. Hold his chin very straight. Make sure he is very upright. This provides space for him to burp and generally they do. I worried for ages with DS until someone showed me this trick. Infacol, IME does nothing.

Infacol did nothing for our DS either, Dentinox was slightly better.

Another one here who thinks Infacol did nothing for my DD. I found lots of time without a nappy helped my DD (I lay her on an absorbant towel) and also tummy massage, I watched this on youtube and it worked wonders.
Holding baby upright and walking up the stairs also worked Hmm

Have tried the sitting thing to no avail! Poor little mite! He's got thrush too and a cold! And possibly reflux as he gags quite alot, but if he does it's silent, unlike his brother who was champion puker!

How old is he, Moodykat? What makes you certain this is wind...could be he just grizzles because he objects to being put down away from you....???

He's only 4 weeks and part of it is that he wants to be close (I don't mind, I love cuddles!) but he makes windy squeaking noises IYKWIM and growling plus lots of 'windy smiles'!

Hi Moodycat,
If you rub the baby's tummy you need to rub clockwise so you are not working against their digestive system (got told that by the HV in a baby massage class!).
Have you tried gripe water? Thats helps with wind.

I also found holding the baby under his/her armpits lift them up, (while supporting their head) and sit them back down a gently pat the back seems to work too.

Squeaking and smiles (I never know why these early smiles are supposed to be 'wind' - why would air in the tummy act on the mouth. jaw and lip muscles???? :) )are part of being a baby... as are wriggling and squirming :)

Trying to get the wind up could even be a waste of time - he's enjoying being close and his squeaking etc could just be irrelevant. Do the jiggling and patting and so on if you want - but personally I'd be sceptical if it did any 'wind-related' good....:)

You can pretend walking up and down stairs, just kind of take long strides and go up and down. Poor thing, wind is really uncomfortable for them. Actually lying them down and waiting for the windy smiles, grimaces, grunts, squirming etc then getting him upright and trying to wind straight away can help.

DS whinges and will then cry if he has wind when he is awake and lying on the floor. He immediately burps when picked up, but is much harder to wind when he is asleep.

How long did you try the sitting up thing for? DS1 used to take at least ten minutes, giving a rub with my thumbs on his back used to help too.

how old is ur little one? i had NO success with infacol, but gripe water was WONDERFUL, but can only be given to slightly older baby's. I found laying my LO down and "cycling " her legs helped as did watching my diet as i often found that she didnt actually need winding when BF, however certain foods in my diet effected my milk, which in turn effected her!!!! I didnt realise the winding thing wasnt such an issue in BF babies, unitl i spoek to to other nursing mothers. Good luck x

I used to live in the UK, where Infacol is OK from birth and Gripe Water from one month (I think). Now we're in NZ, and Gripe Water is OK from birth and Infacol from one month. Exactly the same brand, ingredients etc - go figure...

Infacol was fab for DS1 but did nothing for DS3. It does take a while to work, as in a week or two, but it did really help.

My dd had problems with wind and my hv suggested colycynth (thinks thats how iys spelt!) granules as infacol did nothing. We got almost instant improvements. Its a herbal remedy so not all chemists stock it
