ds2 does this but also does it to my stomach
I have scratches and nip marks all over
the price we pay

it must be a nine month thing

wheresmyfroggy · 07/12/2005 21:07

DD2 does this to lockets all the time, has done for about 4 months now. Leaves really horrid scratches.

Unsurprisingly lockets is cutting down on breastfeeding now

followthestarlover · 07/12/2005 21:09

linus does this... not when breastfeeding as he isn't breastfed... but just generally, along with the hair pulling and gummy biting!

ps... hello froggy!

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 07/12/2005 21:10

Ds does this ...not too pleasant when he has long sharp fingernails but when they are short I actually find the tickly sensation quite pleasant!

MarsyChristmas · 07/12/2005 21:11

hello frogspawn!

DT2 does this all the time and he's about to be 22months. All of my pesky kids have done this. Drives me insane. I should've let them have blankies like everyone else...grrrrrr!!!!!!!

snowfalls · 07/12/2005 21:12

Dts do this to me, as soon as they see a bit of bare flesh, and they always manage to catch you by surprise

Jen28 · 07/12/2005 21:16

My DS has gone through periods of what I called "aggressive nursing". He would twist about and pull me and push me. He still likes to tweak the nipple on the other breast while he is nursing (which I hate). If I cover it with my hand, he pulls my hand away and gets really frustrated when I manage to be quicker than him to get my hand back. When his 2 front teeth arrived at 11 months he was very keen to try out this new thing called biting. Still occasionally get bit (he is now 14mts) but it passed. I yelped and nearly dropped him the first time he bit me. He found it very funny when I tried to scold him for biting me. He would pull off and smile at me and giggle! I guess he was just reacting to my reaction! He now does what I call "stunt nursing". If I am lying down he will lie on top of my chest and put his head sideways to the breast. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Mincepiedermama · 07/12/2005 21:20

OMG my ds does this. He pinches a small bit of skin on my neck, breasts or tummy as hard as he possibly can, which is very hard. I've got loads of bruises. Sometimes I hold his arm down while he feeds.

misdee · 07/12/2005 21:22

if i hold her arm she gets really stressed. she is a twiddler, and that involves twiddling my skin.

I made a necklace with large plastic beads on it for DS to claw at instead of me.

Mincepiedermama · 07/12/2005 21:58

I wonder if these nursing necklaces are any good or whether they get bored with them.

There was a thread on this a couple of days ago with a link to an article. It said that twiddling with the other nipple is clever of the baby because it stimulates milk production. So why is my ds pinching the living daylights out of my neck flab?

misdee · 08/12/2005 08:26

i have a nursing necklace, if i am not wearing it then the clawing gets worse.

ds (6 months) also does this - more of the finger raking and pummelling than scratching - and i've often wondered if it's to do with stimulating milk production. if you think of it like that maybe it'll help ease the pain..?

allycotownofbethlehem · 08/12/2005 09:47

blimey, this takes me back - all my DDs did it!!

can't remember what I did about it though so no help from me am afraid.

BTW, what's a nursing necklace??

ooh they look nice

Tatties · 08/12/2005 19:02

My ds is 8mths and he has been clawing me for quite some time.. I thought I was being soft by letting him do it, but there really is just no stopping him. He likes sqidging my tummy, arms and boobs while feeding and now I have delightful little red marks all over them. I have tried giving him a lovey toy to sqidge instead but he throws it on the floor. I also got some lovely nursing beads from here. They look nice but not sure they have stopped the little nipper.. I have had a few rude awakenings when ds has been in bed with me in the morning, thinking it would be nice to start mummy's day by squeezing mummy's nipple as hard as you can imagine
Jen28, can't wait for the 'stunt' nursing though..

popsycalindisguise · 08/12/2005 19:56

u ahave a nursig necklace which he loves...but still nips me

Jen28 · 09/12/2005 00:29

Bottle fed babies don't know what fun they are missing out on! I also keep reminding myself that skin to skin contact is good. Clearly our babies love it and are just having too much fun!

DS has added a new variation to the stunt nursing which is deliberately letting the milk dribble out of his mouth and then blowing raspberries (into the spilt milk) on my belly. To finish he gives me the most heart-melting cheeky grin, like he is so pleased with himself!

agalch · 09/12/2005 07:26

my dd is 16 months and when she bf she loves to twizzle and pull my hair.most of the time it actually quite nice, sort of soothing but then she'll wind it round her fingers and really yank it,so i'm trying to get my hair untangled whilst not breaking her fingers and shes sucking away.
