My 16 wo DS has started taking less at his breakfast feed, so i am contemplating reducing his dream feed he gets at 10.30 (8oz)

At the mo he sleeps through till 6.30 and is happy to gurgle in his cot till he gets fed at 7 but then only takes 4-5oz.

Im hoping at some point in the future i can get rid of the dream feed but this doesnt look likely if its his biggest feed of the day!!

Any ideas?

One day, DH declared "I don't think DS wants the DF anymore". He was dead on. We decided to stop it, having a bottle ready anyway in case he'd wake up for it. Never happened.
Now, DS wakes up btw 6 and 7 but never fancies any solids at this time. We normally give him 4 oz when he wakes up and the some solid breakfast at about 8 ish.
Have you tried NOT giving him the DF and wait to see if he ask for it?

I always found that my babies never took a big first feed in the day. I'd be happy with 4/5 oz and a bigger feed later. If dc is taking 8 oz at night I wouldn't be so quick to take it away as he must need it?? I'd be happy with this until he is taking a good solid supper for the little tummy to go overnight. Smile

Dont think im ready to go cold turkey with the DF, as thats a huge feed to cut out.
Im hoping this will gradually reduce once he's on solids, but no rush for that.

Just dont want him to refuse his morning feed altogether...

misread your post, read your LO was 16 mo!
Our DF stopped when DS was about 10 mo and well on solids.

Thanks for that DialM, i thought it would be something like that. Just wasnt sure about the breaky bottle. Wont get my knickers in a twist about it and stay as we are!!

Thought i would put a wee update, just incase anyone in the same position

We decided to stop the dream feed at 6 months. He was starting on solids for about 2 weeks but not really interested. When i added up all the milk he was on it was way over the 18-21 oz he needs. He was on about 38oz!!!

He's now having 3 very small "meals" a day and doing a mix of BLW and mash, and still on 30oz of formula! Grubber.

Cutting out the dream feed went well no problems with sleeping through 7-7, yipeeeeeee
