Breast shaped bottles - where can I get them?

My 12 week old dd took a bottle at 2 weeks (expressed milk) and I thought I was a hero! However, I left it too long to repeat the experiment and now the little madam won't take a bottle at all - I've left her with my twin sister for hours and all dd did was scream even though she was starving! I've tried every bottle and teat I can find, I've left her with friends to try, I've made sure I'm not around so she can't spy me and yell for my milk! I thought I would try the bottle that is boob shaped but can't find a UK supplier. Any ideas about a) where to get the bottles and b) how to get the little minx to take a bottle so that I can go out!!!!

they are called breastbottles and you can find them online e.g.

pedleybaby

totsmart

Sorry, cant help with getting your lo to take it!!

Nightynight · 03/12/2005 16:59

wow seona, those links are facinating! I had never heard of this bottle before.

Nightynight · 03/12/2005 17:01

Your dd obviously knows her own mind narnalisa! Would be facinated to know if the breastbottle works.

christmonkey · 04/12/2005 15:21

narnalisa, my ds3 wouldn't take the breastbottle either! I got it from all in one basket What worked for us was
1/ starving him for 4 hours, not trying to give the bottle in that time, just leaving him to it
2/ Holding him facing away from me and singing, walking around
3/ MAM ultivent teats, I used them on Avent bottles I already had
4/ warming the teat
Also, if its been a real battle of wills, its better to leave it for a week or two before trying again, to give her a chance to forget about it. Now my ds3 refused the bottle again once he went on solids but then took the Playtex bottle with NaturalLatch nipple. Tbh I felt this was more like the breast than the nipple of the Adiri bottle which actually has a squared-off end to the teat. Also found the adiri bottle very difficult to use, it collapsed inwards as he sucked and leaked if you turned it up the other way, very frustrating!

christmonkey · 04/12/2005 15:25

Sorry, that link seems to be completely different now, no sign of the breastbottle!

geekgrrl · 04/12/2005 15:58

my dd wuldn't be fooled, either. TBH - I don't think the baby realises that this bottle is supposed to resemble a breast.
Have you thought about trying an open cup?

narnalisa · 08/12/2005 10:38

Thank you soooooo much! I will have a go and let you know how I get on! I can get her to put a Baby Macare bottle teat in her mouth but she won't suck it! At least she doesn't gag now though! I'll try ANYTHING !!!!!

I just coughed up a small fortune to buy the boob shaped one and also the haberman bottle - I'll try ANYTHING, as I said! Thank you thank you thank you! It's worth a try, especially if it means I can leave the little monster with my husband and go out with the girls!! Don't want to miss out on ALL of the Christmas parties, and don't want to be one of those holier-than-thou breast feeding mothers who takes her baby everywhere!

Thanks for your advice, geekgrrl - I have tried to use a syringe to chuck milk into dd's mouth but she got sooo mad that it didn't work! I'll try the cup later!

I get all my playtex stuff from their official Uk distributor. Really nice ladies, v.helpful loads of advice. Company is called Infantcaredirect.

Their number is 01954 719899
www.infantcaredirect.co.uk

If you are having trouble best to phone them although I recommend their latex teat cos its really soft and breast like.

narnalisa · 08/12/2005 13:46

thank you! I'll give it a go!
