Question about breastmilk bags

I'm thinking of starting to try expressing some bm for DD as may need her to take a bottle in future.

How do milk storage bags work. Do they attach to a breast pump or do you express into a bottle and then pour into the bags?

Into a bottle then tip it in the bag and freeze/refrigerate. Write the date on before you put the milk in, so you can use them in the right order.

You can either
[a]hold them on the pump with a rubber band or
[b]express into a bottle and pour into labelled bag.

[b] is a better method IME

Thank you so much.

In case you think you'd like to donate to your local milk bank (Grin) if you find that the expressing is working really well, it's worth getting in touch now and getting suitable bottles. Some mums do the expressing thing as you are, find they have extra, and then want to donate the extra they have in bags, but bags aren't great for storing donated BM in as they don't release the fat content properly. It's not a problem for a healthy term baby having mostly direct BM and a few bags of frozen, but it's not great for a sick prem.

(Rots never letting a milk banking opportunity pass by Grin)
