Research study on hypoallergenic formula

I thought hypoallergenic formulas weren't generally prescribed to prevent allergies, but to children who already had an allergy to cow's milk?

My 2 yr old has a hypoallergenic milk and it's to prevent an allergy or intolerance but because he has an intolerance.

Not yet met anyone who uses them to prevent. Too damn expensive.
