Besides the health benefits of course

Fed DS for 2y7mo. Am bfing DD (20 days old)
Love....

  • the milk drunk look
  • as long as I have enough nappies I can stay out of the house as long as I want.
  • food instantly available for her.
  • in the night, she stirs, I pull her towards me, stick boob in her gob, she feeds and we go back to sleep.
MarisCrane · 02/07/2011 13:43

Pretty much being able to diffuse any crying or upset with a feed.
Feeding on take off/landing on a flight.
I love love the little noises he makes.
The closeness.
The convenience.
The cleavage.

NigeltheFuckwit · 02/07/2011 15:06

Best of luck Lockets, I hope things improve soon. Smile

kimberlina · 02/07/2011 16:05

I have not really enjoyed BFing if I'm honest..... but one moment has made it all worthwhile for me. DD was feeding, obviously finished and then did a very theatrical 'dismount' ending with using my boob as a pillow with a little grunt and the most contented smile ever as she slept - it said to me 'I'm warm, fed, snuggled up with Mum and all is right with the world'

MedicalEd · 02/07/2011 17:23

The little fingers ticking my side as DD feeds.
The milky drunk look and thinking 'I did that'.
The little eye roll when she goes on, like she is drinking liquid pleasure.
And being able to make everything alright by sticking my boob in her mouth.
Grin

MedicalEd · 02/07/2011 17:24

tickling not ticking (typing one handed while feeding!)

FirstVix · 02/07/2011 17:37

For me too the hands tickling/kneeding whilst feeding (DD 7wo)
The ease and convenience (and cost ie FREE!)
The sleep I get now
Thinking 'this baby is made wholey (sp?) by me' [DP had a tiny part I guess !! Nature is amazing!
The complete look of contentment when she's snuggled on my breast asleep after.

(and Good luck Lockets)

HumptyDumpty1 · 02/07/2011 17:44

I love the fact that DH can't do it (haha awful I know but I love the extra cuddles!) and I love the convenience Smile

pettyprudence · 02/07/2011 18:09

Ooh I love:

  • the convenience, esp for night feeds
  • it's free
  • the tickles/kneading as I feed
  • the look in his eyes when he's feeding
  • the milk drunkness
  • the closeness and the fact that he NEEDS ME, no-one else can feed him
  • My lovely handbag (I am the envy of even bf-ing friends of how lightly I can pack, and I'm even trying to reduce it further)
  • So long as I have a handful of nappies I can go anywhere anytime
  • ooh huge big fat chunky thighs that are the result of my milk Grin

What I didn't/don't love

  • the pain for the first 6 weeks
  • ds chucking up the whole bloody lot ALL OVER ME. How does he manage to avoid getting it on him? Also it takes 20mins to go down but only 3 mins to come back up. Grrr (venting because I just go drenched!)
Zwitterion · 02/07/2011 18:16

This is going to sound really weird but bf made me feel high. Not in a drunk way but in a lovely, calm, serene way. I loved it.

Oh and those gorgeous smiles, when they un latch, look up, grin and then snuggle back on. Makes my heart melt.

Eachpeach80 · 02/07/2011 19:35
  1. Convenience of no boiling kettles, sterilising etc
  2. Getting to sit/lie down for 10 minutes
  3. The extra 15 minutes in bed in the morning while he feeds
  4. Weight loss
  5. B cup to E cup
  6. Milky giggles and smiles
  7. Instant relief for (and from!) upset child
  8. Cuddles - he is only 16 months so they are pretty much the only cuddles I get from him - he has too many other things to do the rest of the time
coldcomfortHeart · 02/07/2011 19:36

msbuggywinkle that's such a lovely post.

For me the best things were/are:
convenience- we were delayed in Toronto airport for 8 hours when DS1 was 5 months and I had nothing to worry about food-wise

closeness

weight loss!

FeelLikeTweedleDee · 02/07/2011 19:37

Would anyone liken the high you get from BF to be a bit like cannabis? Calming, relaxing, soothing.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/07/2011 19:59

The gummy grin they give you while your nipple is still in their mouth.

The zoned out sensation i get when feeding - if I am having a conversation whilst feeding I really have to concentrate, otherwise I look off into the distance and think about nothing.

That it is a cure all.

Zwitterion · 02/07/2011 20:20

FeelLikeTweedleDee yes, a bit like a cannabis high, but without the risk of anxiety. Definitely made me ravenous though which counteracted the weight loss.

DuelingFanjo · 02/07/2011 20:28

I loved it when DS started to lay his hand on my breast as he fed and now he grabs the boob and squishes it Grin

agree with the gummy grin.

Ooh everything. The little satisfied milky smiles when she was tiny. The wandering little arm poking my nose and grabbing my drink as she got older. More recently the little foot that would also come up and start kicking my face as she really got down to it (and the cheeky little grin that would accompany a game of Mumball). The excited 'ooh' whenever she saw anything that looked like a nipple. The pouncing when I got in from work.

She hasn't had a feed for four days now. There were lots of good reasons to stop now and DD doesn't seem to have noticed or been remotely upset. I'm heartbroken though.

neptunesdaughter · 03/07/2011 09:38

My DD is 8 months old and she and I love breastfeeding, although we both found it hard at the start. There are so many reasons why I love it, but recently, when she sees me naked or sees my breasts she lets out little 'Ah ah!' exclamations and leans with her arms outstretched towards them - it's so cute!
