Can anyone recommend a cot/cotbed that would work well for bfing?

I've been co-sleeping with my 4-month-old up till now, but the time has come for daddy to get back off the sofa. I would like to carry on sleeping next to my little dude, with a dropside down/removed, and the cot alongside our bed so we can join them up. But I haven't been able to find any cots that do this. Our bedroom is very small, so there's not that much space.

The little dude is quite a big lad, so I've rejected the specialised bedside crib option already - plus we want him to be able to use the cot/cotbed for a while after I've stopped bfing. What have other people done? Anything on the market that does the job?

I have a Cosatto bedside cot - they do them in John Lewis and Argos (Argos is cheaper).

I also have a cosatto close to me bedside cot. DS is 4 months BF and also a big boy!
We find this setup works really well (wish we'd discovered it when DD was born!)

Cosatto for us too. Brilliant. Amazon and Kiddicare did them when we bought it....

Ikea cot here. Two ikea cot mattresses to suit height of your own mattress (we were lucky and found that two different model ikea foam ones, on the higher cot setting, matched our bed height exactly). Make up cot as per specs, but pretend that your DS has already been in it with sides up and follow instructions for side off. (this cot makes into a toddler bed with one long side still up, sort of Swedish day-bed.) You need to fit the mattress base at the higher setting though. It will hold fine, as it's designed to, but for safety's sake, I think we also screwed an L bracket or two under the mattress base.

So now we have this wedged at the side of our 5' bed, making about 7' of sleeping space. T'would be v v luxurious, if DS2 didn't still insist on sleeping with one hand proprietally draped over my boob. I am all for the short-term gratification though, and haven't really started shunting him over to his own cot of a night yet.

If you're concerned that a gap might open up between cot and bed (given that this is not a ct designed for side-car use) then use bungee cords to fasten legs to bed legs. We have a divan so it's tricky, but somewhere on MN there's a link to a visual instruction on how to rig things so you have tightenable straps round cot and under your own mattress. If I can locate it, I'll link. As things are, the cot is up against the wall and our bed, which is heavy, is up against the cot, and I tweak it every night to make sure.

We have a set up like reshape discribes...but without any of the added safety features just made up and bunged between bed and walk. We found one matteres sufficient. Measure the height of your own bed before you go and play around with the display items to find a match.

we have an 'arms reach' bedside cot which I think is bigger than some of the others (like cosatto) so works well for a bigger/older baby. It should be good through until baby is ready to go into a real bed. It does have a 'lip' on the drop-down side so that the mattresses dont smoothly meet iyswim. This means it's harder to slide baby across but they have more of their own space and any gap between the mattresses isn't an issue.

My 4mo ds thus far refuses to stay in it for very long though, preferring to cuddle all night so dh remains on the sofa a while longer in our house.

Thanks to everyone who reponded above. I'm not sure the cosatto bedside cot is still being manufactured. In any event, I've gone for the diy version (so helpfully explained by Reshape and Moonface). We're setting it up this weekend, and I too can't wait for the extra space for our 5' bed. :)
