Dry nipples - recovering from mastitis

Hi all, 11 days into bf dd and I get the shakes, shivers, temp, & scorching hot right breast. Unfortunately 24hrs of massage has made no difference so I have relented and am now taking antibiotics. Feel much better all ready and have only just started the course. However, even though I've worked out it was the latch that caused the cracked nipple, and I've made lots of headway in getting this right (much less painful), the flesh around the nipple and the nipple itself has gone very dry and I'm sure that's adding to the discomfort.

I have a Boots own Lanolin cream which doesn't seem to help much and the NCT bf line said that the parrafin component in it is best avoided. She suggested Lansinoh, but my local Sains & Tescos don't stock it. Where can I get it from? Is there a better cream to get it looking like normal again?

Many thanks

Hiya 99redballoons, i had the same problem when breastfeeding ds2 a couple of years ago, had really bad sore cracked nipples and i used lansinoh - FANTASTIC STUFF!! I boght it at Boots, and i think my local chemist sold some too, you could try there maybe? i hope you feel alot better soon!

Lansinoh's the best cream, IMO.

Try Kamillosan in the meantime if you can't get Lansinoh though. You might get hold of that easier? Boots should have Lansinoh though.

Express a bit of milk at the end of a feed and let it dry on your nipple. That'll help too. Good luck!

kamillosan is great if you can get hold of it. Don't knwo about lansinoh. You have my sympathy, mastitis is awful.

Thanks all. My mil has managed to get some in Boots and a friend has just dropped round some kamilosan so hopefully I'll be on the way to repair soon enough!
