When do I express?!?!?

I have been EBF my 12 week old DS2. It has all been going well (so well, he isn't keen on taking a bottle!). Anyway, for my own sanity I really think I should be starting to persuade him a bottle would be nice, so I can have a some time out.

He feeds between every 2-3 hours during the day and am completely perplexed about when I can express without taking a feed from him. I have a 2.5 year old so I ideally only want to do this once a day.

He tends to take from both sides at the moment so I just don't know when to pump at all! I assume if I start pumping at, for example, 8.30am, then my body will produce enough milk for him and the bottle after a day or so?

Any help please. It use to confuse me the first time round too...

When mine was little I used to express from one side when feeding from the other ?it?s a bit of a juggling act but I found it the easiest way.

Otherwise, if you set a regular time inbetween one of the feeds, your body will come to see it as another feed and your supply should adjust like you say.

Like Cosmosis I tended to express whilst feeding and about about 8.30 ish too. Not an expert on expressing though at all but thought you might find this interesting reading. Alternatively why not give one of the helplines a call and talk it through with a BFC?

Thank you both for your advice. Much appreciated.
