Different sized boobs

Ok, so not a REAL problem but it's bugging me!

DS hates my right boob. He feeds on it but only for 5-10 mins before he has had enough. But then he often wants the left side which he feeds on for ages!

Hence, left boob is far bigger than right. Question is, is it OK for him to feed far more off one than the other (will it affect supply)? And is there anything I can do about the lopsidedness?

Try turning him around on the right boob so that he thinks he is on the left.

Is this a recent thing? Has he got earache?

Some babies do favour one side. I think you can overcome it usually but it is possible to feed from one side only. You could also express from the less used side to even things up.

i had this problem and was advised to turn him so his body and legs were tucked under my arm, had a pillow there to help comfort - used to work for me

He knows if I try and turn him! Or slide him from left to right! I think the right just doesn't work the same way as the left! I don't think he has earache - would he be really grizzly with it? Or just when feeding?

I had lopsided boobs when feeding dd. I am unsure if milk production is always equal to both breasts, hence the favouritism or rather different size.

I always fed ds on the rh side when we were co-sleeping, so when we stopped, that side stopped producing as much. It's never really picked up - the difference in size is quite obvious before a feed, but ds doesn't seem to mind.

I wouldn't worry about it - I just offer that side first to make sure it gets stimulation when he's hungry.

Have had similar problems, but also worry boobs will remain uneven forever, once BFing is over.

Pinotmum · 12/11/2005 14:48

My ds preferred one side to the other. This lead to me stopping bf at 11 months due to it being so obvious and a very hot summer - got some odd looks in strappy tops They are now both back to the same size they were prior to bf so don't worry.

Thanks. I'm not too worried about being lopsided at the moment - it's waaay more important to me to make sure that DS is breastfed. But I did want to make sure and minimise any lopsidedness when I stop.

Sorry girls, but I finished BFeeding 1 month ago and i'm still a little lopsided. Hoping they will even out, but as the weeks go by, not holding out that much hope!!

likklemum - your boobs will go back to normal but it can take up to 2 years for the fatty tissue to be replaced.
