hi

Going for a 2 day course at the beginning of may. Leaving 4 MO with Dh and would like him to have EBF.

I am planning to express atleast once a day if not twice. the amount seems to vary but i struggle to find time. how do others do it more often?

I am storing it in the freezer. when we defrost ...can i mix bags of EBM from different days to make up the amount he needs?

Is it worth all the faff and should i just give FF for the daytime and Bf in the evening/ night when i get back?( DH recommendation)

thanks

i (try) to express daily. Its best to do it in the mroning after 1st feed, that seems to produce more. But i dont alay manage to find time and when dd growth spurt i know because suddenly i can only express a meagre half an ounce! i have left her for a few days now and she takes around 35 ounces in a 24 hour period (shes 18 wo). plus you'll be back to feed in the eveniong so your not going to need that much. I think it worth the faff, as it gets eaier the more you do it. ive been expressing for around 7 weeks now and can easily get 4-5oz in 10 mins.

check out kellymom about the mixing of feeds, dh just defrosts then if gives her a second bottle of she needs more.
Also i would advie getting him used to the bottle BEFORE you go. dd was a nightmare and refused it for a long time. once going almost 20 hours with no food because she wouldnt take bottle or cup. As for ff what if he doesnt like it! it has a VERY different smell and therefore i assume taste than bm. and to buy a pot for two days seems like frightful waste IMO.

spice have you tried expressing whilst you are feeding, it may cut down on the time.

Agree with getting him used to the bottle before you go too, will he take a bottle now?

If you do choose to get in some formula, instead of buying a tub for 2 days you could try cartons or Hipp Organic comes in 2 sealed packets so will last longer.

Oh, and assumed the course was in June.

Thought you might like this, this and this.

How do we find the time? It is very very hard! I was exclusively expressing for a babe with reflux. I used to have to put him down and let him scream for 20 mins while I pumped when he was at his worst. It was hell.

If he won't take a bottle just go for a cup, should be fine at 4mo.

Just a quick comment here - have you checked that your bm is okay when defrosted? Mine's is vile when defrosted, like you wouldn't feed it to your worst enemy let alone your child.
