Toddler asking for milk

16 m.o. DS has only started asking for bf in the last couple of weeks. He says 'muh' and points or pulls at my top. That's fine. (Prior to that, he didn't ask in any way I could interpret, but I offered.)

After a week or so of doing this, he has started 'asking' lots & lots & lots, but mostly not showing the slightest bit of interest when I get out the breast and offer a feed.

Is this normal & just him playing with the idea of being able to ask for milk? It's blimmin' irritating. I wouldn't mind if he wanted it. Hmm

I think he's just realised that something he does makes you do something!

AngelDog · 18/05/2011 22:32

Yes, I think you're probably right. :)

Yes, I think he's excited that he has learnt to say something and keeps doing it just for the thrill.

Smile DS is just 17 months and we have had this for a couple of months now. (I seem to meet you quite a lot on those threads and our DSs seem very similar)

He often asks, latches and then leaves, happy to go about his business. He asks a lot more when he is hungry/bored/tired. I'm trying to improve sleep so I tend to just give when he asks, especially considering I seem to have a very low supply now as I'm pregnant.

Mine calls it 'Na-Na' which is very cute and lovely.

:) MBJ

It seems to be pretty random when he asks. Sometimes he's really quite insistent, even when it turns out he doesn't want it. I ask him 'would you like milk?' and he usually says 'ya-ya!' [yes please]. In the context of food, 'ya-ya' is 95% likely to mean yes please, but that obviously doesn't apply in quite the same way to milk. Confused

He did the latch & leave thing today after pulling my top down to my midriff. My parents were there, and I think they're a bit Hmm about 'extended' bf, so I wasn't overly impressed. Normally he doesn't even show that degree of interest.

I want my periods back so we can TTC again so I'm offering at any opportunity so that I can try to cut back feeds in a couple of weeks in the hope of getting things going again.

Good lck with TTC. (I had a 2 day period, after which he went back to normal, where he fed a lot less than usual and got mine back, conceived that very same cycle. Maybe you'll be as lucky)
