DD2 is now 5 1/2 months, in the past ive managed to express 2 or 3 oz at a time and store it, but thats all gone now and I need to express some so that I can go to my peads first aid training etc -

with dd1 I had no problems expressing, I could get 8 oz in one go!!!

Ive got a tommy tippee hand pump - get nothing

medela mini electric, nothing!!!

just bought a new medela hand pump (which is genuinely LOVELY) but sat here for 30 minutes, nothinhg...yet my boobs are full as DD starting weaning and has missed lunch feed

I can hand express a few drops but thats it

Expressing after a small feed? Just a fling in the dark but maybe pumping just isn't stimulating enough to get your milk flowing?

Are you trying one side then swopping and back again?

I still don't find expressing that easy, hope someone else will be along soon.

How about feeding from one and expressing from the ootther at the same time?

OnlyWantsOne · 18/05/2011 19:18

nope... breast full and get no more than drops, DD feeds from one side, nothing from expressing on other side..

what do I do? This means I cant leave her!!!!

Are you letting down? Do you need a visual stimilus to help you? Have you tried squeezing your breast (like milking a cow) as you use the pump?

OnlyWantsOne · 18/05/2011 19:21

yes, but i get no "flow"

warm flannels or expressing in the bath?

I'd try hand expressing with the baby in the room, but being looked after by someone else so you don't have to jump up. Expressing is a lot harder after 4 months as supply has settled. You'll need to regularly express at about the same time of day so that your supply adjusts.

I found expressing whilst distracted helped, so I would watch TV or browse the internet. It worked better than anything else, if I paid attention to expressing sod all would come out. My HV suggested a bottle of beer could help if you weren't getting a flow but not sure if you want to try that shortly before a first aid course Smile.

Expressing in the morning can sometimes be easier.

I had similar problems with pumps. I ended up paying out £130 for a hospital grade one and my god it made the difference. I get about 3-4 oz in 15 minutes- on my old ones that would have taken me at least an hour in two sittings.

I understand you may not want to pay out any more money but just in case you are interested it was a Ameda Lactaline- dual pump- Amazing!! Also have you tried Fenugreek?? can help up your milk supply a bit x
