Stopping bf

Can I stop bf during the day but still keep one feed e.g. bedtime feed and any that crop up during the night?

DS is 7 mo if that makes any difference!

For a variety of reasons I think it's time to start stopping during the day but don't really want to start faffing with formula in the middle of the night. He usually has one feed still in the night, sometimes 2, occasionally none.

Hi - I am in the process of doing this now, DD is 7mo and I want to be feeding mornings and evenings only (and nights as required...) when I go back to work in July.

I've been doing it gradually - I used to feed DD at roughly 7am, 10.30am, 2pm, 5pm, 7pm. The 5pm feed was easy to drop as I replaced it with dinner and a beaker. Now she has breakfast at 8/9am and lunch at 12/1pm the 10.30 and 2pm feed are really just a short drink, so I have replaced the 2pm with a beaker of milk (formula). Next month I will do the same with the 10.30am feed, leaving me with just 7am, 7pm and whatever happens at night - which I hope to continue until 1yr (maybe more...)

So far it is working OK for us, so it should be possible. But I wonder if you will need to keep going with mornings to keep your supply up? I think hormone levels are highest at night/early morning.

Good luck

Hi Im trying to do this with my 9month old. Have been breastfeeding her 5 times a day along with 3 meals a day but I too am returning to work in July and want to just feed her early and evening. She has dropped her 4.30pm feed and I have just offered her formula, after her lunch, first in a bottle with a teat and then in a beaker which she usually has water in with her meals. She flatly refused both and has now gone for a sleep as per usual. Bit concerned she wont take any milk apart from with me. Am going away with hubby on friday nite, my parents are babysitting not sure how parents and dd are going to get on...
