clucking when feeding

My DD will be 4weeks on Mon, and 2 days ago she started making these funny noises while feeding. I have tried to change position and re-latch but still the noises continue, it feels like she's attached properly and i have been told that this is not the case.

Any advice please

DS used to do this - his tongue was hitting the roof of his mouth because he did not have enough nipple in his mouth. I had to spend a while teaching him how to latch on properly - I got a BF counsellor over to help.

Thanks Iggly

I was just confused as she never used to do this!! She does have a very small mouth and it often takes me a while to make sure her mouth is wide enough and that her tongue is down as she tries to keep it in.
How do you go about getting a bfc to do a home visit?

My ds did this for a while too, particularly on one side.

The latch felt fine to me though and he was feeding well/content/gaining weight etc so I didn't do anything about it. He grew out of it at some point.

My HV had details of a local BF group so I rang up and she came over. It was free too!

My DD does this but her latch is perfect, apparently it's a sign of a fast let-down (which I do have)

Mine did this (not any more at 5 months) and I have a fast let-down. Didn't seem to do her any harm (although a little embarrassing in Starbucks).

I was going to say the same as others, ds2 used to do it but only if he had gone a bit longer between feeds and the milk was very fast flowing/fast let down, he couldn't cope with it as well!

I have to say, a bit of clucking (like that description!) is better than them pulling off the boob and your milk squirting everywhere Blush, particularly when in public!

If you're worried about it, give your HV a call and ask her for the BF number. There are normally drop-in sessions if you can't get someone to come to you.

Congratulations by the way :)

Are you sore at all? Clicking can also be a sign of tongue tie
