9 month DD and feeding

Hi all,

Have not posted on this board for ages - found it v helpful in early days. My 9 month DD is EBF plus 3 meals a day. Typically she has five feeds a day plus 1 night feed. But all feeds are very short - 5 minutes really. Is this typical? should I drop a feed to make other feeds longer? She basically has other thing she wants to be doing in the day than feeding! I really want to ensure she has a decent amount of BM still. How many feed are others of similar age doing?

bemma I probably wouldn't have thought of it at the time either if I'm honest but a friend phoned a few weeks ago in tears. She was returning to work 4 days a week and thought that meant the end of Bfing.

Geve her the number of our local NCT Bfing Counsellor and my friend called back later to thank me. They have worked out a plan together and my friend was, and still is very happy with it.

Hope you find it useful too Smile

Kellymom recommends offering bf an hour before solids until 12 months, to ensure that solids are in addition to milk, rather than as a replacement for milk. Might be worth a try for those of you who are worried.

I agree with JJJ on bemmabegan's issue - I don't see any reason why going back to work in July should mean you should start dropping feeds now. You can always feed during the day on non-work days.
