Took anadin extra - when can I next do a feed?

, I I have a suspected stomach ulcer and I asked dh to get me some more paracetamol in the middle of the night as I couldn't sleep due to pain.

When he returned I took them thinking they were just paracetamol, didn't realise till I got up they were anadin extra and it say not to take while breastfeeding (or while you have a stomach ulcer [anger] )

Thankfully dh gave dd a bottle this morning as I was in too much pain to do a feed (started mix feeding when she was 6 months) so when can I do bf'eed again? I have taken 4 tablets.

What's in them?

Don't know I'm afraid.

Try the BFN helpline. Details here
www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-in-breastmilk.html

You could try asking your GP/NHS direct if you can't speak to anyone...

Aspirin, paracetamol, and caffeine.

Is there a problem with aspirin and breastfeeding then?

I'd go and get some generic paracetamol, ibuprofen, aspirin, whatever, that all say exactly what they are on the box. Brand names can be confusing in the middle of the night and painkillers and not interchangeable (but your DH is a dope because "Anadin" is an aspirin brand).

Ah, aspirin. Have a look here

I would feed now.

The have aspirin paracetamol and caffeine. It's the aspirin thats a no no for breastfeeding. give me a sec i'll look at Hales for you

moaningminniewhingesagain · 10/05/2011 09:51

Hales says it is transferred into the milk in very small amounts, is a poor choice of drug, best to use something else, 'risk is probably low'

Reyes is associated with giving aspirin when child is ill with a virus, so if baby is well I expect the risk is absolutely minimal.

levels peak 1-2 hours after taking it.

But I would bear in mind that the anadin extra doesn't contain the full max adult dose of aspirin as well.
