Woman in doctor's surgery has cysts on her breasts. Doctor asks, " did you breastfeed?"
Woman says, " yes."
Doctor replies, "well it's your own fault then."
???
Any truth in this?

I have no cysts and breastfed twice (as in 2 babies not 2 times)

don't see how it can be true

tedebear · 08/11/2005 18:40

no way!! My Mum had cysts in her breasts well before any of us came along...

Strange Doctor!!

NotQuiteCockney · 08/11/2005 18:41

Huh? Boobs are made for bf. Why would that cause cysts?

Breastfeeding prevents breast cancer (well, reduces your risk, anyway).

Tatties · 08/11/2005 20:05

Suspicions confirmed then (unless anyone on here knows otherwise..) Just someone trying to make me feel like a freak for breastfeeding

Absolute load of cack.

Does GP stand for Guppy Peanutbrain?

aloha · 08/11/2005 20:07

COMPLAIN! bloody outrageous.

WigWamBam · 08/11/2005 20:10

Stupid GP ... I would complain to the practice manager.

Is it any wonder that GPs and HVs get so much stick here when they come out with this sort of hogwash?

NotQuiteCockney · 08/11/2005 20:12

I did a bit of a websearch, and did find references to blocked ducts. How long ago did you breastfeed? Is it possible that's the problem?

(Not saying your GP was being reasonable. I would complain, too.)

Tatties · 08/11/2005 20:18

No, no, sorry the woman isn't me. It was a conversation 2 people were having within my earshot about a 'friend' who had cysts.. It was one of many conversations had within my earshot recently where negative aspects of BF just happened to pop up.. All a load of rubbish.
