Thrush or Not?

DD is 2wks +2 days old.
She is DC3 but I've never had thrush so not sure if this is it or not.

Me:

  • symptoms of a uti; itchiness (could be cystitis, i do get that sometimes)
  • very sore nipples (could be from poor latch as DD will not open her mouth very wide) & on/off behaviour (see below)
  • soreness in breasts between feeds (could just be a strong let down which i do get when i hold her/think about her)

DD:

  • some restlessness & on/off behaviour when feeding, but not always
  • definitely more unsettled than her first 2 weeks (though have been trying Infacol as some straining for poos)
  • really bad nappy rash that look different to nappy rash I've seen before (but have 2 boys so maybe girls have different nappy rash?)
  • no white spots in mouth at all

Any opinions on thrush or not? The nappy rash is really what got me thinking about thrush, so may just be attributing other 'symptoms' which I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.
Will have to be out-of-hours/drop-in place tomorrow if so.

sounds like thrush to me! does she have a whit-ish looking tongue? sometimes even if there arent distinc spots, there may be more of a whitish sheen to the tongue / roof of mouth. and i think thush nappy rash is in creases whereas normal nappy rash isn't.

No whitishness that i can see which makes me think i'm worrying over nothing.

But the rash does look bad :(

Well we are agreed it is definitely thrush :(

She has a whitish sheen now & i have terrible pain during & after feeding.

Have been to the docs (twice) and am now on 100mg of fluconazole, nipple cream & drops for DD.

Fingers crossed all the meds work...
