dont want to be a teething bore but ds3 has the edge of one tooth out and the beginning of the second and is clearly finding it sore.

I cant remeber if this is always follwed by a huge thirst. His afternoon snack feed is becoming a long session and its really drinking, not fiddling around. Similarly at night he is very thirsty.

Is this because he is losing lots of fluids by dribbling?

Not sure if its the dribbling or not. My ds got 4 teeth in 10 days and also drank tons of milk day and night. But he didn't dribble. The reason I thought was maybe because his mouth was so sore he wasn't eating properly so he needed to fill up on milk. Don't know if that helps at all.

My ds fed a lot more when he was actively teething. Partly I think it was the comfort, and I wondered if the sucking soothed the gums at the front (although I have also heard of babies going off the breast when teething because the pressure of sucking causes pain in the gums). A lot of babies change their feeding habits when they are teething. He might also be going through a growth spurt (how old is he?) and it just happens to conincide with teething?? Just an idea.

His appetite has waned a little - apart from blinking crusts to chew on - keep finding them under the high chair etc..YUK

My ds used to dribble so much when he teethed that I used to have to get him to drink more fluids to make up for it otherwise he got constipated.
