How and when to express?

Me and DS have almost got the hang of BF (5wks old) and I am starting to think about expressing the odd feed here and there but as ds feeds roughly every 2 hours and from both breasts I am not sure how to go about this? MW told me to express 5 mins off each side after a feed and keep swapping until I stop producing (roughly) but have been told by someone else that this may cause over supply issues? Surely any expressing could do this?

We have a manual pump to start us off, so what's the best way to go about it?

I found it easier to express while feeding from the other breast.

The sight, smell, and feel of your baby breastfeeding eases the letdown of the other breast ime.

I agree with Cote, expressing whilst feeding was the most efficient I found when not expressing instead of a feed.

I didn't get a drop with manual pump, for me best time to express iis first thing in the morning when breasts feel quite full, feed off one side and express off the other. don't worry if you don't get much milk, it has no reflection on how much your baby is getting!

second all these bits of advice - although I find the manual pump absolutely fine. Good luck! :)
