My DP is giving my 8 week old one bottle a day and have I been trying to express for this feed. If i haven't managed to express is it ok to give her a bottle of formula? Is it ok to one day be express and the next formula? We need to keep her taking a bottle for when I go back to work.

Thanks.

also, how long can espressed milk and formula milk be kept in the fridge before using it?

Depends what you mean by "ok" to give formula! Obviously you are recommended to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months, but formula is also an adequate baby milk. There is a theory that a baby has a "virgin gut" and anything other than breastmilk damages it, but as I say it's only a theory.

If you are happy to give formula though, I don't see any reason not to give formula so days and expressed milk others.

If you make formula up with hot water and cool it quickly, it can be kept in the fridge for up to 24 hours (but the quicker it is used the better). Out of the fridge it lasts 2 hours from being made.

Here are some guidelines for storing breastmilk

Thanks, I would prefer to only use expressed when using a bottle but as she will only nap on me i am struggling to find time to express everyday!
