Evil rumour about strawberries...

I am a strawberryaholic. I grow millions of them in my garden every year and will eat bowls full given the chance. My mum came to visit over the weekend and told me I can't eat them while I breast feed the baby (due in June) because it will give the baby the squwits! Is this hideous rumour true or was it just her? This could be enough to put me off the idea of breast feeding completely

As far as I'm aware strawberries would only cause diarrhea would only happen if you could get the fibre out the strawberries in your gut, into your blood stream and then into your milk ducts and humans can't do that. So unless you are a different species to the rest of us then the answer is no Grin

Eat and enjoy!

So my mother was being mean! That is a relief!

I'm sure I ate tons of strawberries with no ill effects? Will hopefully do nothing more than pass on a very healthy predilection for strawbs to your baby... Grin

in my experience baby poo is pretty squit like whatever I eat!

You may find people warn you off loads of stuff. Ignore them. There is nothing out of bounds whilst breastfeeding, although a few women find their babies are sensitive to dairy protein and cut this out of their diets.

This is an incredible relief, I'm looking forward to getting my squishy cheese back! My strawberry plants are flowering fabulously so hopefully I'll be spending a very strawbtastic summer on maternity leave :o

Evil and rubbish!

Enjoy your strawberries, DH managed to kill off our seedlings...!

Agree with bluebeach think you'll get explosive poos whether or not you touch the Strawberries.

Thought you might like this guide on foods to avoid, ie none, you can just scoff away Smile

Hope you have a Strawberrylicious summer with your new LO and hopefully a glass of Rose too.

Some people are allergic to strawberries, so I suppose if you had a baby who was allergic to whatever the allergen is in strawberries and you ate lots, they might have a reaction - but I doubt it's likely. Hmm
