expressing - best time?

sorry if this is a silly or unanswerable question.

DS is 4 months old and I am hoping to start expressing and try him on a cup. I have a Doidy.

He is EBF and feeds at least 2 times at night and several times a day - 2-3 hourly but basically on demand.

When should I express? After a night feed?

First thing in the morning I was at my most full and was able to get a good amount.

fab, thanks. Would that be after I feed him?

You could try after or whilst.

DuelingFanjo · 22/04/2011 10:06

oh, good idea Grin I hadn't thought of that.

I tend to get most during the first feed of the day - i feed ds4 on one side and pump from the other.

Pearlgirl I agree.

I always found it best to express just before a feed. The baby is more efficient than a pump, so they are always able to get milk out even if you feel "empty", whereas with pumping I found I needed that initial letdown which is helped by feeling fuller.

While feeding is probably better but DS kept knocking the pump off so not particularly successful for me.
